Enjoy one of these Design Your Day activities, drive to Abu Simbel (3 hrs., each way by road, pre-bookable $90 Per Person) There, behold the towering twin temples of Ramses II and his wife, Queen Nefertari, rescued from the flooding waters of the Aswan High Dam.

The Abu Simbel temples, located near Egypt's southern border, are among the most magnificent monuments. Carved into a rock cliff by King Ramses II around 1264 BC, the Great Temple features four imposing colossal seated statues of the pharaoh on its facade. Inside, statues of Ramses II line the main hall leading to a sanctuary with deities including Amun-Ra, Ra-Horakhty, Ptah, and a deified Ramses. The temple is famous for being precisely aligned so that sunlight illuminates the sanctuary twice a year, around February 22nd and October 22nd. In the 1960s, the entire complex was moved to avoid submersion by the Aswan High Dam.

After breakfast onboard, you'll cross the Nile to the West Bank and begin your journey at the Valley of the Kings. This hidden valley, nestled amongst the Theban Hills, was the final resting place for numerous New Kingdom pharaohs, including the famous Tutankhamun. You will have the opportunity to visit several royal tombs, each uniquely decorated with vibrant murals depicting scenes from Egyptian mythology and the afterlife. The sheer artistry and preservation of these ancient paintings are truly awe-inspiring. Your guide will provide insights into the beliefs and rituals surrounding death and the journey to the netherworld. Next, you'll visit the impressive Temple of Hatshepsut, one of Egypt's most remarkable female pharaohs.
