FAQs

What are the main cities and sites typically covered in a 10-day tour?
  • Cairo/Giza: The Great Pyramids, Sphinx, Egyptian Museum (or the new Grand Egyptian Museum - GEM, when fully open), and Old Cairo.

  • Aswan (Nile Cruise start/end): High Dam, Philae Temple, and optional trip to Abu Simbel.

  • Nile Cruise (3-4 nights): Sailing between Luxor and Aswan, including stops at Kom Ombo and Edfu Temples.

  • Luxor (Nile Cruise end/start): Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple, Valley of the Kings, and the Temple of Hatshepsut.

What is the best time of year to take this tour?

The best time is generally October to April.

  • Peak Season (Dec-Feb): The weather is most comfortable for sightseeing (mild to warm days, cool evenings), but it's the most crowded and most expensive time.

  • Shoulder Season (Oct-Nov and Mar-Apr): The weather is still very pleasant, and you'll find fewer crowds and potentially better prices than the peak season.

  • Summer (May-Sept): It is very hot, especially in Upper Egypt (Luxor/Aswan), but you'll benefit from the lowest prices and the fewest crowds.

Is Egypt safe for tourists?

Yes, generally, travel in the main tourist corridors (Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Red Sea) is considered very safe. The Egyptian government places a high priority on tourist security, with visible "Tourism Police" and security measures at all major sites and airports. The Nile cruise route is considered one of the most secure tourist zones.

What is included in the Nile Cruise portion?
  • Accommodation in a cabin.

  • All meals (usually full board: breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

  • Guided excursions to temples and sites along the Nile, like Kom Ombo and Edfu.

  • Evening entertainment (e.g., a Galabeya party, belly dancing show).

  • Use of on-board amenities like a sundeck and small pool.

Is tipping (Baksheesh) required, and how much should I budget?
  • Tipping Pool/Kit: Many tours arrange a collective "tipping fund" for porters, drivers, and cruise staff, which is collected upfront. This makes daily tipping easier.

  • Private Guide/Egyptologist: Budget around $10 - $20 USD per person, per day, for excellent service.

  • Cruise Staff: If a collective tip is not organized, budget around $5 - $10 USD per person, per day, for the crew (usually left in a central box).

  • Small Services (Bathroom attendants, baggage handlers): Small bills (e.g., 5-10 EGP or $1 USD) are appreciated.

  • Currency: Have plenty of small Egyptian Pounds (EGP) for everyday tips.
